Kitchen Witchery: Homemade Granola

I love homemade granola. There is nothing quite like the taste of freshly roasted nuts and oats, not to mention sweet little goodies in between. So here is my favorite recipe with a little extra magickal oomph (in a lot of ways this recipe is like a charm bag or sachet – carry it with you for good luck and prosperity!):Kitchen Witchery: Homemade Granola by The Witch of Howling Creek

1 cup walnut halves to send your wishes out into the universe
1 cup whole almonds with skins to bring you wisdom
8 cups old-fashioned rolled oats to bring you wealth
1 cup melted butter to banish hostility
1/3 cup local honey to attract happiness (and fight allergies!)
½ tsp salt to cleanse and purify your body
1 ¼ cup salted, roasted pumpkin seeds to promote good health
1 cup dried currants to ensure abundance
¾ cup chopped dried strawberries to promote creativity
1 cup chocolate chips to bring about harmony

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Line 2 large shallow baking sheets with foil. Place walnuts and almonds on one sheet and toast until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Let cool, then coarsely chop and set aside.
  2. Reduce oven temperature to 300 F. Divide oats between baking sheets.
  3. In medium bowl, melt butter in microwave. Stir in honey and salt. Drizzle mixture onto oats and stir well with rubber spatula.
  4. Spread oats in even layer and bake, stirring once and switching positions of pans halfway through until golden, about 30 minutes (mixture will crisp as it cools.) Transfer to a large bowl, cool, add remaining ingredients and toss well. Store airtight at room temperature.
